Global Environment Research
Students participating in an environmental science course create original research projects throughout the entire year. Research is directed by student interest and is local and community in nature.
Photovoice Methodology:
Photovoice is a process by which people can identify, represent, and enhance their community through a specific photographic technique (Wang & Burris, 1997). Researchers have engaged youth in participatory and civic engagement using Photovoice (Gant, Shimshock, Allen-Meares, Smith, Miller, Hollingsworth & Shanks, 2009).
Students in the Global Environment class have used Photovoice as a method to see their communities. Through the sharing and discussion of photographs students speak about how they see their communities,
The goals of our photovoice project are to
1. Try to see if there is an overarching issue/set of issues that concern all of us in our relationship to our communities/environments
2. Investigate these issues using images and critical dialogue.
