My Sanctuary
There is no specific way to define a neighborhood. It's a place full of diversity, food, and culture. It's a place where people meet, problems arise, and resolve. For many generations neighborhoods have defined people and how they felt and lived for years.
In these neighborhoods certain communities form. Which is a group of people that have similar ideas or beliefs or that just love the place they live and want to be a part of something better to help others. In a lot of these communities there are many who want to protect it and its environment, they make community gardens and neighborhood watches watches to keep the community safe and all its nature. These ideas are very important to me in the sense that I also live in a community and there are people taking these measures to keep it safe.
I don't have much in common with my community, I am a very independent person and I don't like to feel bothered But when i am getting involved, I try to get involved in everything there is to offer form the carnivals to the nature around me. Racial diversity is in my neighborhood is so vast and large. Its so interesting to talk to people in my neighborhood and find out new things about there that i never knew about there cultures. Where i live has influenced me in a big way i have always grown up in the same place and i have always enjoyed nature and having riverside park next to me i was always able to enjoy nature and still be able to write my music because of the inspiration. One of the best experiences I have had in my neighborhood is one day i am walking home from school and I saw a homeless man on the street, so i stopped to give him money and mainly because i always saw him there and i felt bad. But interestingly enough when i tried to give him money he rejected it i asked him why, he told me he gave millions of dollars away he didn't like being rich he said what right does he have to be happy and rich wile so many people in the world are starving and deprived of so much. till this day i see him walking the streets and he always has a new pair of sneakers.

This mental mapping process has been very eye opening and I am very grateful that we did this activity. I learned new things about the places that others lived that I have never been or that my parents told me were unsafe. I feel as if this was most peoples reactions seeing as this was one of the big topics that we had discussed as a class. Because of this many new ideas generated that I would now have thought about before this activity. For example that people can feel disconnected from there neighborhood even though they live there. If I were to share this research I would discuss the questions that were brought up in the conversations. I would also show some of the maps. I would share this with my family and friends outside of school to educate them as I have been. Overall this has been a amazing process. It has been again very nice and interesting to get to everyone and there neighborhoods better. I have started to understand marginalization better and how it is hidden in plain sight.
Methodology
Collection of Data
For this ad project we had to take photos of advertisements that caught our eyes for any particular reason. While I was going around looking for these photos, at first I felt that I just needed to take photos of any ad. But as I was taking pictures of certain ads I started to think to myself this ad makes me feel degraded as a woman. Realizing this I started to understand the project. I started a new search for my ads, I was looking for ads that made my really feel something. If there would be a protest for that ad I would go kind of touching. I started to walk around the city I do not usually stop and look at the ads and say something, but this project gave me the eyes to do so. I went through Times Square, and my route home. Coming home was very interesting, I had noticed certain ads I would not have even looked at, and the audience they are trying to sell to. Many of the ads where I live are for skin products, makeup, and really fancy expensive clothing that just because they take 30% off, that hardly brings down the price.
Data Analysis
After I collected all my ads I started my data, I started my content analysis, I created categories biased off of my findings. Starting with animals seeing as how animals would make “warm peoples hearts” and make them want to buy the product. My other categories include woman's body parts, male’s body parts, ads containing more than one ethnicity ect.
