This photo really speaks to me because it’s exactly what I grew up around and what my childhood is. This is a photograph of one of my grandparent's two plantations, with this one being near the town of Santa Fe, Ecuador. The house in the middle is extremely old but beautiful, and my mother’s family used to formerly live there for a period of their lives. I chose this photo because while growing up, I would visit this plantation nearly every month, and I would spend my time just exploring or running around the place while my family and the workers would plant, fertilize, and harvest the corn crop. I’ve known this place for as long as I’ve lived, which is why it has inspired me to chose my research project to revolve around my grandparents and their lives as farmers. I’ve lived my whole life around this landscape, and through my research, I hope to learn more about the lifestyle of my family and what being a farmer in Ecuador really means.
