When I was attempting to capture my environment with my camera I stumbled upon this large herd of geese in Miller Field. The park was for the most part empty and I enjoy the fact that there was at least one person in this particular photo, as well as the geese. None the less, my photo appears quite dry and lonely. Living in Staten Island and traveling to the city daily I was well aware that these very adjectives might come to mind when my classmates consider my hometown. When I did show others my photo-voice, as predicted, they associated the borough and photos with certain traits. Yet, I did and do not necessarily agree with certain view points of where I live. For this reason I was inspired to question what people thought of their own boroughs. My current research question is based on this and it is important to answer because stereotypes play an important role in society. If the youth of today pictures my photo as the sole manner of Staten Island then there is a problem. If people only see danger when thinking of the Bronx then this is a problem. These are the thoughts that went through my mind when reflecting on my photos.
