This photo illustrates branches and pieces of trees torn down due to weather conditions (about 3 weeks after storms). I chose to take my pictures in Van Cortlandt Park. The reason why I chose this setting was because it was a place where I had previously taken notice of all the human interference (or lack of). This was of great importance to me because it got me thinking about why rangers or other park officials make certain parts of a park look “pretty”, while other parts which actually need maintenance aren’t taken care of. The reason why I decided to capture this image was because it showed how Cortlandt Park doesn’t well maintain all areas. From my trip, it was visible that the areas of the park that were maintained were the ones that were near entrances and exits. I noticed that I had taken a lot of “nature” shots, as well as many “people” shots, but crossed out the idea of using strangers as part of my photo voice project because I couldn’t see how they portrayed the way I felt about my environment (other than social environment).
