My inspiration to this research project involves a lot of factors but mainly the neighborhood I lived in. New York City is a metropolis; full of arts, technology, races and energy as well. Many consider New York to be the capital of the world but I considered being the only “star in the dark”. What I mean is that New York never sleeps, full of light, mainly energy being waste. The picture I have chosen is Broadway, full of light bolts that come in a variety of shapes and color, full of unnecessary brightness. Every day tons of waltzes are burned in stuff that is not even necessary. This issue is related to my research since the urge to look for alternatives resources has delivered form the huge among of energy being used in today’s society. For example one of the alternative resources that are being implemented is the usage of natural gas. The process in which natural gas is extracted from the ground is called hydrofracking, fracking for short. This practice is considered to be very cheap, but the problems related to fracking seem to cost a lot. The location, were drilling usually takes place are mainly surrounded by civilians, but the real issues is that in order to penetrate the ground you need chemicals and water. As these chemical break the rock and solid the chemicals are being discharge to the water that later is headed to your home. Such chemical have been involve in kidney malfunction, cancer and other health related problems. This picture and the issue related because I feel that since we live in a city were tons of energy is being sued every day and night, I feel that were are responsible for the result delivered form the practice of fracking.
My research project is targeting teenagers, for the most high school students, to see if they are aware of what hydrofracking means. At the end I hope to have an estimate of how many student out of 50 are very informed of the issue around their country that are somewhat related to our community. This is the relationship between the picture of Broadway and my research project, our community might be far away from the drilling cite but the reasons of consumptions are just around the corner.
