When I hear the word neighborhood, the first word that comes to my mind is where I live, the people I know and my whole childhood in my case. Neighborhood is small, usually in some cases you might have people of your same race, that might speak the same language as you do or even know you from a long time ago and might in fact seen you grow up. The word community already sounds a little bigger, for me its something larger, I can describe it as different neighborhood together in ¨unity¨ to stand together for many issues that go around our perspective homes.
The word environment has many different meanings. For some, it can be just plain nature or something of the sort. But for me its all of my surroundings, what I see everyday and influence me in a type of way. There are different types of environment, there's school, home, park and etc. And finally there is nature, I don't see nature as the nature people tend to see as it is but I see it as the nature of how things are. The nature to the way why people think a certain way or the nature of our mentality. Most of these definitions for me are mostly internal and how I view the world.
These ideas have various meaning to me. Neighborhood means my home, its where I go everyday and live my daily life. I wake up every day, say hi to some familiar faces and go on my daily activities. The idea of a community might seem scary at first but I always like to think of it as a get together either for a positive action or to defend something that happen in any of the neighborhood. Seeing a community often makes me feel empowered or makes me have a feeling to do good. In fact, Community does even have to be from where you live. You can go to the Upper West Side or Harlem, there is that sense of tightness or feeling on home. It all usually depends on where you spend most of your time at.
In my neighborhood, I see myself not very too involved but I am still part of that home. I may not hangout out much where I live but I like to take walks and enjoy the sites I see. On one hand, in my community I can always identify myself striving to make a difference even if its something small, I can still relate and try to make changes. In the environment, I always say that I'm not very environmental or a ¨tree person¨, I do feel out of place and weird but its nice to see the wonders of the earth.
We all have any experience either in our neighborhood, community, or in the environment. I think for me the best experiences are in the holidays or get together where close friends and family share and enjoy each others company. Seeing family members you haven't seen in a while and talking about all that has happen in your life is a reviving feeling. I get to feel the vibe of love and smiling faces, for me those are defining moments that define a part of my life.

Throughout the making of the mental map, I really got to see myself and how I actually view my neighborhood. I discover that I use places to escape the reality and imagine myself in a better place. I also realize that I enjoy going to take walks and see nature ironically since I'm not much of an environment person, I was able to connect with views such as the G.W. Bridge to help me think of other things either when I was sad or happy, I looked up to it. As I was reflecting, questions started to emerge, have these places or view made me think in a different way?. Did I learn to appreciate nature even though I been denying it in the long run? And most importantly will I always see myself looking up to these elements whenever I find myself in a situation I want to escape?. Seeing the mental mapping process personal because although you are examining your view on your neighborhood, you are viewing and discovering who you are. I would probably share this research with people who are interested in these types of project, I wouldn't share all of it but only things I find essential at a point where the person analyzing my research can understand my point of view. I would share my research in a way that people would hear what I have to say and afterwards discuss my map just the way we been doing it in class. I find that discussion (group or class) is effective to get a good understanding.
My thoughts on the mapping research overall is beneficial to me and the audience because we are learning new things about our self and others. I have been able to connect with other besides the fact that we live in different places. I have also learn to connect with my childhood and important elements of my identity. I think the research answer many of the questions that we had lay out at the beginning of the research. And I came up with questions throughout the mapping, much of which broaden my view about myself. I think this method of research is very effective and authentic, its not the normal or boring way of reading and writing but a developing skill of thinking and analyzing that helps the person put value and thinking into the project. Some other ways we can capture what we are interested in our neighborhood is to actually take a trip around your neighborhood and pause to reflect. Sometimes we are so busy and time captures us but we just take a moment and take in the sight of your environment and where you grew up.

As we started to do the ad buster project, I really wanted to get my ideas from magazines since I am a collector and a fan of buying the glossy magazines with famous celebrity on the covers. For me, it wasn't until I started to realize that inside of these beautiful Photoshop photos that the ads were funny in a way. This started a mark for me to realize to pay a little more attention to what exactly were these ads saying. Since then I been highly observing what the ads are saying and I was impressed to see that most of the ads had females and sexist slogans to capture the audience attention. It definitely caught my attention and made me go into the project.
For my content analyze, I wanted to do something different from the rest of the general advertisements and look more into women and how they are portrayed to sell something, giving off a certain vibe to the buyer or viewer. Starting with my first image, I used the Dolce and Gabbana ad that promotes the light blue perfume. At first sight you see a handsome man and a beautiful woman embraced and sternly staring at us. Right away we are seduced into buying the perfume thinking we will have the same feeling. Often many perfume ads usually have attractive genders that make you want to buy the perfume. The other two ad is about alcohol in this case Remy Martin and Ciroc, in both ads you see one guy which is made to be the center of attention by the women surrounding them. Right away the person is seeing the ad mostly men are already imagining themselves in the photo, having a ¨fun¨ time. Women in these types of advertisements are seen as sex objects and ¨things¨to have fun with. The Gillette shaving ad is appealing to men since the product is made for men, the ad is giving out the idea of what an idea women would want her man to feel, it is seductive but easy to believe to whoever is seeing the ad. In the ad, the woman is laying down and in a nice no pressure environment which gives it more of an easy feel for the quick buyer. The Grand Marneir ad is also a alcoholic advertisement but a little more tricking although one might think that its an okay commercial if you really look at it, a pair of a woman's legs is the special recipe for seduction in these ads. Maybe some people might think that much is not shown, body parts lead to more than the say. The next advertisement the slim fast ad. The slim fast ad purpose is to make women in this case to lose weight but it gives us another reason, a sexual reason so that jeans can be easier to take off ? No doubt many women are already brought to believe this idea. If the drink makes them look sexier and appeal sexy to other men it is a giver. The Equinox ad and others that were to much to post all had the same idea which is go to the gym, and men are going to want you not your personality but your BODY. The ad doesn't give us the viewer positive view about how going to the gym and all the health benefits but rather about how men will want your body and feel sexier for others but not for yourself. The 6 advertisement that deal with clothing are all very sexual. These clothes brands want you to buy their clothing since that's what their ads give off. One of them that caught my attention was the one for Calvin Klein, in the ad you see an attractive man cup a woman's breast but all that the ad is about is the jeans. But we don't see it that way, especially the Abercombie and Fitch ads that we see all the time, even walk around with the bag that has the image of the sexy guy with the abs. Whether we see it or not, we also sell when we go around with the bag. I also put three vintage ads, the one about the general tile, the Chanel perfume and the tide ad. I want to start with the tide since all we seen is only only women selling laundry detergent and other cleaning products. Already you can start the division between genders. Seem as if the ad were saying women should clean not men. The other ad about the general tire since the ad is about tires, it is a men´s job and he is supposed to be the one to look after her as it seem to say. There is still that noticeable difference between men and women. The Chanel ad although it seem attractive but it just says ¨buy the perfume and guys will be after you¨ the focus is not much on the perfume but on the after effect of when you put it on. The Colgate ad is at first hard to find what would it have that's it bad in a sense but it just gives off a vibe that doesn't go with the product. Since when does having nice clean flossed teeth gives you a nice husband. And not only in that ad but in the commercial, to meet the man of your dreams, first you have to smile at him. Already it gives up the wrong message. The always ad is really the same to me, somehow there is this one girl who is happy to be having her period and ironically wearing white pants. Advertisements like those usually get me mad and are just plain stupid. How can a certain product just completely make your whole mood change? Such ads are consider disrespectful towards women in general and really put us in a tough situation. Switching topics, there are two ads in general that caught my attention and it was the cigarettes ads for the slims and the camel. Although they are old, it really shows us how in dept advertisements went to sell a product. In the ads, we see a attractive woman obliviously with a cigg in her hand but not only that but the slogans are beyond sexist ¨you come a long way baby¨ and ¨would he walk a mile for me?¨. It makes us women seem needing and ironically the cigg are believed to empower u
